Notary Certificate Pre-Check ($5) / Revisión previa del certificado (EN/ES)

Check Your California Notary Certificate Before You Mail It

A rejected apostille can cost you weeks. One of the most common reasons is a problem with the notary certificate itself: a missing boxed notice, an incomplete venue, a typed signature, or a seal that is hard to read. Our $5 Notary Certificate Pre-Check reviews a photo or scan of your certificate in about a minute, before you send anything.

Start Your $5 Pre-Check

How it works

  1. Upload a clear photo or flat PDF scan of the notary certificate page.
  2. Pay $5 through Square.
  3. Get your results right away, item by item, with a Pre-check ID.
  4. If you order our full apostille service, include your Pre-check ID and the $5 is credited toward your order.

If the image cannot be read clearly, you get one free re-upload.

What we check

  • The boxed notice at the top of the certificate
  • Venue (state and county)
  • Standard California certificate wording
  • Notarization date
  • Signer name(s)
  • Penalty of perjury clause
  • Witness clause
  • Notary signature (handwritten, not typed)
  • Seal legibility

What the pre-check cannot do

This is an automated review of the image you upload, limited to the visual format of the notarial certificate under Cal. Civ. Code § 1189 and Cal. Gov. Code § 8202. It is not a service of the California Secretary of State, and only the Secretary of State decides whether an apostille is issued.

It cannot verify whether the notary's signature matches the one on file with the state, whether the notary's commission was active, whether the seal matches state records, whether your document is original or altered, whether the notarization was properly performed, pages you did not upload, or whether the destination country will accept your document. California birth, marriage, and death records are apostilled as certified copies from the county or state registrar, not with a notary certificate. A result of "No issues found" does not guarantee acceptance. This review is not legal advice.

Uploaded files are stored securely and deleted automatically after 30 days.
